ABOUT

Marley Umensetter

I’ve lived in District 13 for most of my life. I’m a mom, a student, and an active member of my community. I'm running for office because I believe that we deserve legislators who value the people in their communities more than they value validation from the people at the very top. Many of our legislators have proven that they don’t care how many of us call, write, and email. If we want real change, our only option is to replace them.My campaign is community-focused and community-powered.

ISSUES

Prioritize Public Education

Our public schools are the only schools accessible to every single student in our state, regardless of their zip code or financial status. We need to keep public funding in our public schools, where it will benefit every student living in our state, regardless of their zip code or financial status, and provide better wages and benefits to our public school teachers.

Support
The Working-Class

To improve the quality of life in West Virginia, we must provide the resources our communities need to access safe, well-paying jobs in our state. Increase the minimum wage - nobody working 40 hours a week should be living in poverty. Ensure access to affordable childcare for every family - parents need access to affordable childcare in order to go to work.

Strengthen
Unions

Strong unions create strong communities.
Organized workers earn higher wages, have safer workplace conditions, and receive better benefits.
It’s time for West Virginia to end right-to-work legislation, which only weakens the effectiveness of the unions in our state, and enforce policies that support labor unions.

Protect
Fundamental
Rights

The super-majority controlling our state legislature has been stripping away the rights and protections for the most vulnerable people in West Virginia for years.
It’s time for us to start focusing on the issues that actually make life better for everyone in our state and restore the rights to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom.

Diversify
Energy
Supply

West Virginia is the only state that still relies on coal for more than 75% of its electricity generation. We must invest in clean, renewable energy sources to protect our environment, our health, our wallets, and our workers.

Community
Focused

As a candidate for state office, it's my responsibility to connect with my community and listen to the issues that matter to them. I want people to vote for me because I took the time to earn their trust and showed them that they can count on me to stand by my morals and have their best interest in mind once I'm elected.
